This was my last week with a hybrid work arrangement before I will be required to report to my office full-time. It was an interesting week. I'll miss access to my family and home during the workday, but I'll survive. Here's to the next chapter.
- Provided timely, policy compliant, and technically sound technical assistance to field staff on multiple active construction projects, including conducting a site visit to review construction practices.
- Virtual attendance at ICCLH meeting to maintain awareness of implementation of NLPA and discuss FLH role therein.
- Tested and provided feedback on a new USGS data product with application to FLH work.
- Prepared technical requirements and justifications for subsurface explorations at two project sites.
- Provided technical guidance to geotechnical team members for unique and challenging situations.
The other USGS activity I was looking at was the Intermountain West Seamless Geologic Map Explorer. It's an interesting data product that is trying to combine geologic data from a variety of mapping sources to create a single map file. Probably the coolest thing about this product is that you can switch between conventional map units and "geologic terrain" units. The geologic terrain units combine multiple map units that belong to similar geologic events across a wide geographic area. For example, grouping together the various sedimentary packages that are all part of the Cretaceous inland sea. The current map area is limited, but I'm hopeful that this product will gain some momentum in the next few years.
